In the reproduction of the paramecium, each new daughter cell is now going to be a complete new organism.  This process is known as fission.  Fission occurs when an organism "splits" apart, with each new cell becoming a new and complete organism.  Since the paramecium splits lengthwise, it is known as transverse fission.
